Advancing Community Healthcare Through Vision Support
Vision health plays a vital role in education, employment, and daily living. Through its Ophthalmic Care Outreach Project, St John Ambulans Malaysia Negeri Selangor Darul Ehsan has demonstrated how community-based healthcare initiatives can make a meaningful difference in the lives of underserved populations.

The programme provides professional eye screening services and free anti blue-light prescription glasses, helping beneficiaries gain better access to essential vision care while improving overall quality of life.
By focusing on prevention, accessibility, and community outreach, the initiative reflects a sustainable model for healthcare support that can inspire similar efforts across the region.
Creating Lasting Social Impact Through Volunteerism

The achievement reflects the power of collaboration between volunteers, healthcare professionals, community leaders, donors, and supporters working together toward a common humanitarian goal.
Beyond the numbers, the project demonstrates how dedicated volunteer organisations can play a significant role in improving public health outcomes and strengthening community resilience. Through initiatives such as this, St John Ambulans Malaysia Negeri Selangor Darul Ehsan continues to extend its impact beyond traditional emergency services into long-term community wellbeing.
Project Founders and Leadership Team
The Ophthalmic Care Outreach Project was jointly initiated by Mr. Sim Kah Heun, Mr. Patrick So Ling Fong, and Dr. Kong Kah Kit, with the support and guidance of Mr. Lim Wun Lok, who serves as the Project Advisor.
Within the project leadership structure, Mr. Sim Kah Heun serves as Chairman of the Ophthalmic Care Unit, providing overall leadership and strategic direction for the initiative. Mr. Patrick So Ling Fong and Dr. Kong Kah Kit serve as Vice Chairmen, working closely to oversee programme implementation, resource coordination, and community outreach efforts.

The project also seeks to uphold and extend the legacy of the St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group, internationally recognised for its longstanding contributions to ophthalmic care and charitable medical services.
Through collaboration, compassion, and community engagement, the initiative strives to expand access to eye care services for underserved communities while promoting greater awareness of preventive vision care. By providing screening, treatment assistance, and essential support to those in need, the project aims to improve quality of life, restore confidence and independence, and serve as a model of community healthcare impact that can inspire similar initiatives across Asia.
