ASIA Records is proud to officially recognise Calanthe Art Café (迦南地咖啡艺术馆) for achieving:
First Home-Grown Brand to Assemble the Heritage Coffees of Malaysia’s 13 States into One Collection
(13 coffees from 13 states, 3 bean species, officially launched in June 2005)
This recognition highlights Calanthe Art Café’s achievement in bringing together Malaysia’s diverse state coffee traditions within one collection, creating a distinctive platform for discovering the country’s coffee heritage.
Bringing Malaysia’s 13 States Together Through Coffee
Officially launched in June 2005, Calanthe Art Café’s collection assembles 13 coffees representing Malaysia’s 13 states, allowing visitors to explore different local coffee identities in one place.
The concept offers a shared setting for appreciating the diversity of Malaysian coffee. Each state’s representation contributes to a wider story of local tastes, traditions and everyday coffee culture.
By bringing these coffees together under a home-grown brand, Calanthe Art Café turns a café visit into an opportunity to discover familiar flavours and explore those associated with other parts of Malaysia.

Exploring Diversity Across Three Coffee Bean Species
The collection incorporates three coffee bean species: Arabica, Robusta and Liberica. In an interview with FMT, Calanthe’s founder, Joe Ng, described bean selection as one of the factors contributing to differences between the coffees, alongside roasting and preparation practices.
This approach encourages visitors to look beyond coffee as a single, uniform beverage and appreciate the choices and traditions that shape each cup.
Through its 13-state collection, Calanthe Art Café provides a way to explore these differences while keeping Malaysian coffee heritage at the centre of the experience.

Connecting Coffee Appreciation with Art and Heritage
Located along Jalan Hang Kasturi in Melaka, Calanthe Art Café combines its Malaysian coffee selection with colourful paintings and eclectic décor, creating an environment where coffee and artistic expression come together.
The setting complements the collection’s cultural focus, inviting visitors to experience local flavours within an art-inspired café environment.
ASIA Records recognition acknowledges the brand’s pioneering achievement in assembling the heritage coffees of all 13 Malaysian states into one collection, highlighting a distinctive contribution to the presentation of local coffee culture.
