Hot FM Recognised by ASIA Records for First and Deepest Underwater Live Radio Broadcast in Open Sea

ASIA Records is proud to officially recognise Hot FM for achieving the milestone:

First and Deepest Outdoor Live Radio Broadcast Conducted Underwater in Open Sea by Radio Personalities (10-Metre Depth, 90-Minute Broadcast Duration)

This recognition marks a groundbreaking achievement in Asia’s broadcasting landscape, demonstrating how creativity, technology, and bold execution can redefine the boundaries of live radio entertainment.

Redefining Radio: Broadcasting Beneath the Ocean Surface

Following the success of its previous record-setting campaign on Mount Kinabalu, the Bekpes Hot team—featuring Khairy Jamaluddin, Johan, Farah Fauzana, and AG Azmeer—embarked on an even more ambitious challenge: delivering a live radio broadcast from beneath the sea.

The historic broadcast took place off the waters of Pulau Bidong, where the team descended to a depth of 10 metres, transmitting live content to listeners nationwide from the seabed.

The broadcast began at 10:00 AM from the Marine Research Station of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) and concluded successfully after 90 minutes underwater, marking a first-of-its-kind achievement across Asia.

A Collaboration of Expertise and Precision

This complex operation was made possible through close collaboration with key partners, including UMT Diving School and the Special Actions Unit (UTK) of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

The execution required careful planning, specialised diving coordination, and technical adaptation to ensure clear communication and uninterrupted broadcasting in an underwater environment.

The success of the broadcast reflects the integration of media innovation with scientific and operational expertise, showcasing what can be achieved through cross-industry collaboration.

Pushing the Limits of Broadcast Innovation

Hot FM’s achievement represents more than a technical feat—it reflects a commitment to innovation and audience engagement in an increasingly competitive media landscape.

By taking radio broadcasting into the “silent world” beneath the ocean, the station introduced a new dimension of storytelling and immersive experience, capturing attention across multiple markets.

The campaign reached audiences across 10 Asian countries, reinforcing Hot FM’s position as a forward-thinking broadcaster willing to challenge convention and explore new frontiers.

A Milestone Moment of Recognition

The ASIA Records certificate was officially presented on 4 May 2026 at the Media Prima Hot FM Studio in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The recognition was awarded in acknowledgement of Hot FM’s pioneering achievement in live underwater broadcasting and its contribution to innovation in the media industry.

Voices of Leadership

Reflecting on the achievement, Raja Khairil Idris Raja Aznan, Senior Content Director of Hot FM, shared:

“After conquering Malaysia’s highest peak, we wanted to challenge convention once again—this time by venturing into the ‘silent world’ beneath the sea.

This challenge reflects the fighting spirit, courage, and innovation that define Hot FM’s DNA. It’s how we continue to stay relevant and connected to our listeners.”

Associate Professor Dr. Hasrizal Shaari, Programme Director at UMT, added:

“This collaboration reflects strong confidence in UMT’s expertise in marine sciences and diving. It also highlights Pulau Bidong as a unique location capable of hosting innovative and meaningful initiatives.”

Leaving a Lasting Mark Beneath the Waves

As part of the initiative, Hot FM installed a microphone-shaped monument and mini underwater studio at the seabed—serving as both a symbolic marker of the achievement and a contribution to marine ecosystem awareness.

This effort adds a lasting legacy to the project, combining innovation with environmental consciousness.

Advancing the Future of Media in Asia

This milestone underscores the evolving nature of media, where creativity, experience, and technological integration play a key role in capturing audience attention.

Hot FM’s achievement demonstrates how broadcasters can move beyond traditional formats to create memorable, high-impact experiences that resonate across borders.
