Just weeks later, on 5 August 2026, the couple marked another exceptional milestone—their 70th wedding anniversary, having been married since 1956.
Their journey together has extended across generations and accompanied some of the most consequential periods of Malaysia’s modern development.
Tun Dr Mahathir served as Malaysia’s Prime Minister for a combined 24 years across two non-consecutive terms, while Tun Dr Siti Hasmah accompanied him throughout those years while maintaining her own longstanding contributions to medicine, public health, and society.

The achievement underwent ASIA Records’ full adjudication methodology, involving independent research, documentary verification, and competitive benchmarking against publicly documented achievements across major Asian markets.
Following the adjudication process, no publicly documented equivalent achievement was identified across Asia at the time of certification.

The ASIA Records certificate was officially presented on 11 August 2026 at the Perdana Leadership Foundation, Putrajaya, marking the formal acknowledgement of this historic joint achievement.
The recognition was conferred upon Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad and Tun Dr Siti Hasmah binti Mohd Ali, commemorating their combined age of 201 years, 70 years of marriage, and extraordinary shared journey through decades of Malaysian public life.
The certificate was presented by YBhg Tan Sri Datuk Danny Ooi, Chairman of the Advisory Board, accompanied by Ms Gillian Ooi and Mr Eldrick Koh, representing ASIA Records.
