The recognition acknowledges a large-scale Taekwon-Do board-breaking achievement involving 168 students from 39 educational institutions, spanning pre-school, primary school, secondary school, college and university levels.
Working together in a coordinated federation-sanctioned attempt, the participants collectively broke 16,888 Taekwon-Do boards in 9 minutes and 32 seconds, reflecting discipline, preparation, timing and teamwork across a diverse group of young martial arts practitioners.
The achievement also carried special significance for the club as it marked the 10th anniversary of Penang TTA, with the record attempt serving as a meaningful way to commemorate a decade of development through Taekwon-Do.
Bringing 168 Students Across 39 Institutions Together
A defining feature of the achievement was the participation of students from different stages of education, bringing together young practitioners from early childhood through tertiary education.
The 168 participants comprised one pre-school student, 86 primary school students, 73 secondary school students, three college students and five university students, representing a total of 39 institutions.
Rather than focusing solely on individual performance, the record required the entire group to work towards one shared objective.
This collective format placed emphasis on coordination and teamwork, with participants, coaches and organisers working together to ensure the attempt could be completed within a structured and organised setting.
The achievement demonstrates how Taekwon-Do can bring together students from different age groups and educational backgrounds through a common discipline while encouraging focus, confidence, physical coordination and cooperation.
16,888 Boards Broken in 9 Minutes and 32 Seconds
At the centre of the ASIA Records recognition was the successful breaking of 16,888 Taekwon-Do boards within 9 minutes and 32 seconds.
The recognised attempt was completed from 08:20:00 to 08:29:32 on 8 August 2026 at SJKC Keng Koon, Penang.
The result represents both speed and scale, with the final completion time forming the measurable basis of the recognition.
Beyond the number of boards broken, the attempt required careful planning to coordinate 168 students from 39 institutions, involving participants with different levels of experience and from different age groups.
Each student contributed to the final result, making the achievement a collective effort rather than an individual challenge.
Marking 10 Years of Penang TTA
The record attempt was organised as part of a milestone year for Penang TTA, which marked its 10th anniversary in 2026.
Rather than commemorating the occasion solely through a conventional celebration, the organisers chose to bring students together for a challenge that represented the values developed through martial arts training.
The record therefore became both a measurable achievement and a reflection of the club’s emphasis on continuous improvement.
For the organisers, the milestone also carried a wider message that records should not simply be admired, but can serve as motivation for young practitioners to challenge themselves, grow and work towards higher goals.
Part of the Penang MITF & 9th TTA Taekwon-Do Championship 2026
The record attempt formed part of the Penang MITF & 9th TTA Taekwon-Do Championship 2026, held on 8 August 2026 at SJKC Keng Koon, Jalan Bukit Tambun, Bukit Tambun, 14110 Simpang Ampat, Pulau Pinang.
The event programme began with participant registration and the record attempt before continuing with the arrival of invited guests, a Taekwon-Do performance, official addresses, the recognition certificate presentation and subsequent championship activities.
The programme included an address by Dato’ Paduka Muhammad Shahnaz Bin Azmi, President of the Malaysian ITF Taekwon-Do Federation (MITF).
The event was officiated by En Shamsul Qamar Bin Shamsuddin, Youth and Sports Officer for Seberang Perai Selatan District.
The championship provided students with an opportunity to participate not only in the ASIA Records attempt but also in a wider structured martial arts programme involving competition and community participation.
Building More Than Competitive Skills
For Kelab Taekwondo (MITF) Triumphs Achieve (TTA), the value of Taekwon-Do extends beyond competition results and medals.
Training requires students to develop physical technique, concentration, discipline, communication and consistency. It also places them in situations where they must learn to respond to pressure, setbacks and challenges.

The ASIA Records certificate was officially presented on 8 August 2026 at SJKC Keng Koon, Penang, during the Penang MITF & 9th TTA Taekwon-Do Championship 2026.
The recognition was received by Tan Kean Hooi, Chairman of Kelab Taekwondo (MITF) Triumphs Achieve (TTA), together with Tan Yeong Hooi, Organising Chairman & Head Coach of Kelab Taekwondo (MITF) Triumphs Achieve (TTA).
The presentation acknowledged the successful completion of the record attempt involving 16,888 board breaks in 9 minutes and 32 seconds, achieved through the collective participation of 168 students representing 39 educational institutions.
The recognition also reflects the contribution of the organisers, coaches, participating institutions and students whose preparation and coordination made the achievement possible.

Reflecting on the milestone, Tan Kean Hooi, Chairman of Kelab Taekwondo (MITF) Triumphs Achieve (TTA), shared:
“This year marks the 10th anniversary of Penang TTA, and we wanted to commemorate this important moment in a meaningful and historic way by taking on a record challenge. We also wanted the children to understand that records are not simply something to look up to. They are there to be challenged, broken, and to inspire them to create their own future.
“The numbers are only what people see on the surface. What truly matters is the effort, unity and cooperation behind them. Through this achievement, we hope to show that when Malaysian youth are given the right guidance, they can demonstrate tremendous potential, discipline and team spirit while challenging themselves to achieve more.
“Medals may eventually be forgotten, but character stays with a person for life. Taekwon-Do teaches children discipline, respect, respect for their teachers, and perseverance. These are the qualities that become an important part of who they are and remain with them throughout their lives.”
